What got you interested in essential oils?
Essential oils were introduced into my life in 1998, five years after I graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honour’s Degree in Physical and Health Education.
Before my studies at the university, I had suffered with bipolar disorder (manic depression) from 1974 – 1988.
As a matter of fact, the allopathic approach to curing me of my sickness had failed to bring me back to good health. So, alternative medicine became a viable option for me. I was not just being treated for a disease, but rather I was being taught about the cause and prevention of diseases like bipolar disorder. I was empowered to take control.
Because I had an invested interest to learn about being responsible to manage my own health and that I had studied biochemistry and bio-mechanics of the human body, my interest in essential oils was a natural occurrence.
In other words, I embraced essential oils because I understood human physiology and how mechanically the body functions at a cellular level. So essential oils proved to be an immediate solution to improving both physical and mental states of health for me and this is what keeps me interested in essential oils.
How you got started?
My greatest influence was my naturopathic doctor who practiced and treated patients holistically. I made tremendous improvements and turned my life into an inquiry of why bipolar disorder had destroyed me to the point of hating life. I was invited to attend a health conference in 1998 which focused on the work and findings of Dr. D. Gary Young concerning essential oils. I had little doubts about the validity of his teachings and embraced many of his teachings and learned more about these powerful oils and their many applied uses. I also witnessed the actualization of the rise of one man and the unlimited potential a human being really has as Gary Young has set an example of himself of what is possible. I purchased my first essential oil at this convention in 1998 in Salt Lake City called Rosalina. I remember going back to my hotel room and getting acquainted with the fragrance of Rosalina and thinking about what I had been learning in how essential oils work. Presently, I continue to use oils on a daily basis to maintain and improve myself on all levels (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual).
What are you up to these days - how far have you gotten since you first started?
Presently, I am a retired elementary teacher from Ontario living aboard in Costa Rica. I continue to use essential oils in my everyday life and I share them with the people who want what I have. My home is an example of a young living home where I use these products in the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, living room and on my body. I diffuse oils regularly into every room to improve the quality of my personal living space. I have attained silver qualifications with Young Living as a distributor and this offers me a financial compensation for simply helping others to understand the multiple benefits of using essential oils. I am establishing myself as a young living essential oil consultant in combination with my other qualifications as a health and fitness specialist.
It is important to state a fact about how far I have come from the time in 1974 when I was labeled as a manic depressive person…since my departure from allopathic medicine in 1988…I have not used pharmaceutical drugs at all for the last 27 years! My life has improved with a successful career as an elementary school teacher; I have more energy; I have gained a deeper understanding of health and disease…and ultimately, I love my life.
Where do you hope to be in the near future (hope to achieve)?
I am an expert in the areas of exercise, nutrition, stress - management, uses of essential oils, meditation and positive thinking. In the next couple of years, I will release my autobiography to tell a story of how I overcame bipolar disorder and how I used essential oils. By the end of 2015, I want to advance to the next rank as Gold.
